Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Routing Protocols

Description: Manages policy-based routing with OSPF (PBRF-OSPF) configuration on BAS CMTS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-PBRF-OSPF-MIB?

BAS-PBRF-OSPF-MIB is a vendor MIB from Broadband Access Systems defining configuration objects for OSPF export policy-based routing filters (PBRF) on their CMTS platforms. It exposes import/export filter tables keyed by chassis, slot, interface, and logical port, including filter templates, descriptions, and row status for each route-filtering rule. This is a configuration/policy MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB; its monitoring value is in verifying that routing policy filters are correctly provisioned and active on each interface, which helps diagnose unexpected route redistribution or missing routes. It builds on the standard OSPF routing protocol model, applying BAS-specific policy filtering on top of it. It is deployed on CMTS platforms where operators need fine-grained control over which OSPF routes are imported or exported per interface. Engineers can download the BAS-PBRF-OSPF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-PBRF-OSPF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect basPbrfOSPFImportTable/basPbrfOSPFImportEntry, checking basPbrfOSPFImportRowStatus and basPbrfOSPFImportDescr for a given basPbrfOSPFImportChassis/basPbrfOSPFImportSlot/basPbrfOSPFImportLPort to confirm a route filter is active as intended. If basPbrfOSPFImportFilterTempTable entries referenced by basPbrfOSPFImportTemplateCount don't match the expected filter template, that would explain unexpected routes appearing (or missing) on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OSPF import/export filter status
  • filter row status
  • filter template count
  • per-interface routing policy
  • filter description/configuration
