What Is RDN-DEFINITIONS-MIB?
RDN-DEFINITIONS-MIB is a Motorola enterprise MIB that defines shared textual conventions, constants, and common data types used across the broader family of Motorola BSR/RDN-prefixed MIB modules for CMTS and related broadband access products. It contains no monitorable objects of its own; it is purely foundational type/constant definitions imported by companion MIBs such as RDN-CABLE-SPECTRUM-MIB. Its relevance to device monitoring is indirect: by standardizing shared types (e.g. enumerations, index types) across the Motorola RDN MIB suite, it ensures consistent representation of status and configuration fields (such as thresholds, states, and identifiers) used to monitor CMTS hardware and software behavior in companion modules. It is explicitly a dependency of other RDN-prefixed Motorola enterprise MIBs, which import its type definitions. It is deployed alongside the full Motorola/ARRIS BSR CMTS MIB suite in cable broadband access network management. Browsing the RDN-DEFINITIONS-MIB OID list mainly reveals shared type and constant definitions rather than any objects an admin would poll directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RDN-DEFINITIONS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- shared textual convention/type definitions (supporting other Motorola RDN MIBs' status and configuration objects)
Supported Devices
- Motorola/ARRIS BSR-series CMTS
- Motorola broadband access platforms
Monitoring Examples
This module defines no sample_objects and has no directly pollable data; instead, other Motorola RDN MIBs (such as RDN-CABLE-SPECTRUM-MIB) import its textual conventions to represent fields like threshold values or state enumerations consistently. A MIB browser resolving the type of an object in a companion Motorola CMTS MIB, such as a flap-list threshold field, would reference definitions originating in this module.

RFC description
Defines common textual conventions, constants, and shared data types used across Motorola BSR MIB modules.
Start monitoring Motorola/ARRIS BSR-series CMTS (shared textual conventions/constants, vendor unclear on successor) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
