Description: Manages chassis slot configuration, card assignment, and slot state on Motorola BSR broadband services router platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RDN-SLOTS-MIB?
RDN-SLOTS-MIB is a Motorola enterprise MIB for the BSR CMTS platform that defines objects for chassis slot configuration, including slot identification, card-type assignment expected for a slot, and slot administrative/operational state. It provides the physical-inventory backbone that ties installed modules (from the related RDN-MODULES-MIB) to their chassis location. Its monitoring focus is hardware-status oriented: an operator uses it to verify whether a slot is populated, whether the installed card matches the expected type, and whether the slot is administratively enabled, which helps detect empty slots, card mismatches, or slots taken out of service. It is designed to work together with RDN-MODULES-MIB and RDN-SENSOR-TYPE-MIB as part of the same Motorola BSR chassis-management MIB family. It is deployed on Motorola BSR CMTS platforms in cable head-ends where chassis slot state affects overall system capacity and redundancy, and administrators can download the RDN-SLOTS-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RDN-SLOTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Motorola BSR (Broadband Services Router) CMTS chassis
Monitoring Examples
No object or table names were included in the sample for this MIB, so specific OIDs cannot be cited here, but based on its purpose an admin would expect to poll a slot table for each slot's occupancy, expected/actual card type, and administrative state. A slot reporting empty when a card is physically installed, or an admin-disabled slot, would be flagged as needing a hardware/config check. This is typically cross-referenced with RDN-MODULES-MIB data for the module actually detected in that slot.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis slot occupancy status
- expected vs. actual card type per slot
- slot administrative/operational state
