Description: Tracks CPU and memory utilization of software processes on Motorola BSR broadband services router platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RDN-PROCESS-MIB?

RDN-PROCESS-MIB is a Motorola BSR (Broadband Services Router) MIB used to monitor active system software processes and memory usage on the platform. It exposes performance counters covering per-CPU utilization at multiple intervals, aggregate and per-slot memory allocation, and a task/process table listing running software processes. This MIB is squarely aimed at monitoring hardware/software status: CPU load (5-second, 1-minute, and 5-minute utilization), total allocatable versus free memory, and individual task/process states, all of which are classic indicators of device health and potential resource exhaustion. It appears to be a self-contained Motorola-specific module without heavy reliance on standard IETF process/CPU MIBs, defining its own object tree instead. It is typically deployed on Motorola BSR broadband access/routing platforms, where operators rely on RDN-PROCESS-MIB SNMP monitoring to track CPU and memory headroom per slot and catch overload conditions before service degradation.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RDN-PROCESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Motorola BSR (Broadband Services Router) platforms

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rdnCPUTotalTable (indexed by rdnSlotSnmpIndex and rdnCPUIndex) to read rdnTotalCPUUtilization5Sec, rdnTotalCPUUtilization1Min, and rdnTotalCPUUtilization5Min, watching for sustained high values that indicate an overloaded control-plane CPU on a given slot. In parallel, rdnTotalAllocatableMem, rdnTotalMemAllocated, and rdnTotalFreeMem reveal whether the device is approaching memory exhaustion. The rdnTaskTable would let an operator drill into which specific software task or process is consuming CPU/memory when an anomaly is detected via rdnProcessMIBNotifs traps.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-slot CPU utilization (5 sec/1 min/5 min)
  • total allocatable memory
  • total memory allocated
  • total free memory
  • active task/process table
  • CPU type per slot
