Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB?
RBN-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB is a Redback Networks (later Ericsson SmartEdge) enterprise MIB for managing Media Gateway (MG) functions on VoIP/telephony gateway platforms. It defines objects and notifications describing media gateway events, including event date/time, severity, sender, type, probable cause, and free-text information that reflect the gateway's operational and fault status. Administrators use it mainly for software/operational-status monitoring, tracking severity-classified alarms and probable-cause diagnostics to catch call-processing or media-path failures rather than raw hardware sensor readings. It is one of several Redback/Ericsson RBN-* enterprise MIBs and is commonly used alongside RBN system and interface MIBs for full-platform visibility. It is typically deployed on Ericsson SmartEdge routers and media gateway controllers in service-provider VoIP and packet telephony networks. Engineers can download the RBN-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson SmartEdge media gateway/BRAS platforms
- Redback Networks routers
Monitoring Examples
A management station can subscribe to rbnMediaGatewayNotifications and correlate them with rbnMGEventSeverity and rbnMGEventProbableCause, for example seeing a critical-severity event whose probable cause points to a media-path failure. Using rbnMGEventDateAndTime and rbnMGEventSender, the admin can pinpoint when and which gateway instance raised the event. This lets operations staff distinguish transient signaling glitches from a genuine gateway outage.
What Can Be Monitored
- media gateway event severity
- event type and probable cause
- event timestamps
- gateway fault notifications
