Description: Documents Ericsson SmartEdge SNMP agent capabilities for the L2VPN services MIB on SmartEdge series BRAS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBN-L2VPN-CAP?

RBN-L2VPN-CAP is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module for Ericsson's SmartEdge/SM/SSR family of broadband edge routers and metro Ethernet platforms, declaring which portions of the companion RBN-L2VPN-MIB (Layer 2 VPN service MIB) a given Ericsson SEOS software release actually implements. Rather than exposing operational counters or sensor readings itself, it is purely a capabilities/conformance statement mapping specific SEOS product releases to the object groups and variations they support in the L2VPN MIB. As such it does not directly expose hardware environmentals, interface counters, or fault traps - it is metadata that management tools use to know what to expect from a device's L2VPN instrumentation. It depends entirely on RBN-L2VPN-MIB for the actual managed objects and on Ericsson's SEOS platform versioning scheme referenced via PRODUCT-RELEASE clauses. It is used in service-provider networks running Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR/SM platforms for L2VPN (e.g. VPLS/VPWS) services, primarily consulted by management systems performing capability negotiation rather than by operators directly. Engineers can download the RBN-L2VPN-CAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-L2VPN-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge MSER router
  • Ericsson SSR (Smart Service Router)
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet Service Transport platform

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module, and none would be expected: it is a pure AGENT-CAPABILITIES/conformance declaration built around PRODUCT-RELEASE and STATUS clauses tied to Ericsson SEOS versions across the SE/SM/SSR product families. There is therefore no runtime monitoring scenario to describe honestly here - the actual monitorable L2VPN service objects (pseudowire status, VPLS instance state, etc.) live in the companion RBN-L2VPN-MIB, and this module only tells an NMS which of those objects a given platform/release supports.
