What Is RBN-IP-BIND-MIB?

RBN-IP-BIND-MIB is a Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge enterprise MIB that models the binding of IP addresses and interfaces to underlying physical ports and circuits, tying subscriber-facing IP interfaces back to the IF-MIB ifIndex representation used on the BRAS. It exposes configuration/relationship data: for each bound circuit it records the circuit handle, the associated ifIndex and hierarchical ifIndex, a human-readable circuit description, and the routing context (VRF-like) name the binding belongs to. This is used less for hardware health and more for software/configuration state monitoring: verifying that subscriber or service interfaces are correctly bound to the expected physical port/circuit and context, which is essential for troubleshooting misrouted traffic or subscriber sessions that fail to come up. It builds directly on top of the standard IF-MIB, cross-referencing ifIndex values defined there. It is deployed on Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS platforms terminating large numbers of broadband subscriber circuits where IP-to-circuit binding needs to be verified per context. Engineers can download the RBN-IP-BIND-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-IP-BIND-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS
  • SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER) family

Monitoring Examples

An operator can walk rbnIpBindTable/rbnIpBindEntry and correlate rbnIpBindCircuitHandle with rbnIpBindIfIndex and rbnIpBindHierarchicalIfIndex to confirm that a specific subscriber circuit (identified by rbnIpBindCircuitDescr) is bound into the correct rbnIpBindContextName (routing context/VRF). If a subscriber's IP session is not passing traffic, the admin checks this table to see whether the binding row is missing or points to the wrong ifIndex/context, indicating a provisioning or circuit-mapping fault rather than a physical link failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP-to-circuit binding status
  • circuit-to-ifIndex mapping
  • routing context (VRF) assignment
  • subscriber circuit description
