Description: Describes the SNMP agent capabilities of Ericsson SmartEdge devices for the IETF MAU (Medium Attachment Unit) MIB on SmartEdge series BRAS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-IETF-MAU-CAP?
RBN-IETF-MAU-CAP is an Ericsson AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing SmartEdge/SSR BRAS support for the IETF MAU MIB (RFC 2668/RFC 4836), which governs Medium Attachment Unit (physical Ethernet transceiver) status and configuration. It defines no objects itself; it documents which MAU groups (link status, media type, autonegotiation state) the SmartEdge SNMP agent implements, noting that SmartEdge 6.1.3 conformance is based on the newer RFC 4836. For monitoring, it indicates whether physical-layer Ethernet port health such as link up/down state, media/connector type, and autonegotiation results can be polled on the device. It is explicitly a conformance statement for the IETF MAU-MIB. It is deployed as reference documentation for SmartEdge MSER, SM, and SSR platforms with Ethernet physical interfaces. Engineers can download the RBN-IETF-MAU-CAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-IETF-MAU-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson/Redback SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
- SmartEdge Metro Ethernet (SM) platform
- Smart Service Router (SSR)
Monitoring Examples
No sample_objects are listed for this module; instead an administrator uses this capabilities clause to determine whether base MAU-MIB objects like ifMauStatus or ifMauAutoNegCapAdvertisedBits are supported on a given SmartEdge SEOS release, then polls those to detect a port stuck in an unexpected autonegotiation state or a MAU reporting a fault condition instead of link-up. This is useful when diagnosing a physical Ethernet link that fails to negotiate speed/duplex correctly.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAU group support
- Ethernet physical-layer link status conformance
- autonegotiation/media-type reporting
