Description: Documents Ericsson SmartEdge SNMP agent capabilities for the IETF BGP-4 MIB on SmartEdge series BRAS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-IETF-BGP4-CAP?
RBN-IETF-BGP4-CAP is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module declaring which parts of the standard IETF BGP4-MIB are implemented by the SNMP agent on Ericsson SmartEdge (Redback) routing platforms. As a capabilities module it exposes no runtime data itself -- no peer state, no route counts -- only a statement of implementation conformance to help management systems know what BGP4-MIB objects are actually retrievable on a given SEOS release. It therefore plays no direct role in monitoring hardware/software operational status; its function is purely to scope what BGP peering data can be polled elsewhere. It is explicitly a conformance layer over the standard BGP4-MIB, tying support to specific Ericsson SEOS versions and product families. It is deployed as part of the SNMP agent stack on Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR routers running BGP, and the RBN-IETF-BGP4-CAP MIB itself is what management systems reference to determine agent conformance.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-IETF-BGP4-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
- Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)
Monitoring Examples
This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty); it declares which BGP4-MIB groups/objects the agent implements rather than exposing BGP peer or route data itself. There is no monitoring scenario to invent -- actual BGP peer status and counters would be polled from the standard BGP4-MIB this module declares conformance for.
