Description: Documents Ericsson SmartEdge SNMP agent capabilities for the IETF Alarm MIB on SmartEdge series BRAS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBN-IETF-ALARM-CAP?

RBN-IETF-ALARM-CAP is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module documenting how Ericsson's SmartEdge SNMP agent implements the standard IETF ALARM-MIB on the SmartEdge family of Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) and Metro Ethernet platforms (including the SmartEdge MSER, SM, and SSR product families). Rather than defining new managed objects, it declares which parts of the IETF ALARM-MIB are supported, and with what platform-specific variations, by a given SmartEdge SEOS software release. As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement it has no runtime data of its own, but it exists specifically to describe support for fault/alarm reporting, i.e., which alarm severities, alarm tables, and notifications the device's software can generate, which is directly relevant to monitoring device fault status. Its entire purpose is dependency documentation: it maps SmartEdge SEOS releases to their level of conformance with the IETF ALARM-MIB standard. It applies to Ericsson SmartEdge routers/BRAS platforms deployed in service-provider broadband access and metro Ethernet networks, where the RBN-IETF-ALARM-CAP MIB documents exactly which alarm-reporting capabilities each SEOS release supports.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-IETF-ALARM-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)/BRAS
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet platform
  • Ericsson SSR (Smart Service Router)

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects of its own (no sample objects were extracted), so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; its practical use is to tell a management application which IETF ALARM-MIB objects and notifications a given Ericsson SmartEdge SEOS release actually implements.
