Category: Environmental Monitoring, Vendor: Ericsson
Description: Monitors chassis environmental conditions including temperature, fan status, and power supply health on Redback SmartEdge BRAS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-ENVMON-MIB?
RBN-ENVMON-MIB is a Redback Networks enterprise MIB that generically manages environmental monitoring functionality across Redback's SmartEdge broadband remote access server (BRAS) platform. It defines two simple status tables -- rbnFanStatusTable and rbnPowerStatusTable -- each indexed by a test-point number rather than a physical assembly, since a single test point can represent the aggregate status of multiple fans or power supplies. Each entry exposes a human-readable rbnFanDescr/rbnPowerDescr and a boolean rbnFanFail/rbnPowerFail flag indicating whether the monitored fan(s) or power supply(ies) covered by that test point have failed. Two accompanying notifications, rbnFanFailChange and rbnPowerFailChange, fire whenever the corresponding failure flag transitions, making this a lightweight but effective early-warning MIB for chassis hardware health rather than a detailed sensor-reading MIB. It is deployed on Redback SmartEdge routers/BRAS chassis and depends on the RBN-SMI enterprise tree for its OID registration, and the RBN-ENVMON-MIB MIB Browser view is typically the fastest way to inspect current fan/power health on these platforms.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-ENVMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Redback Networks SmartEdge routers / BRAS chassis
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls rbnFanFail and rbnPowerFail across all entries in rbnFanStatusTable and rbnPowerStatusTable to get a quick pass/fail summary of chassis cooling and power, and subscribes to rbnFanFailChange/rbnPowerFailChange traps; a fan or power test point flipping to true(1) would indicate a failed fan assembly or power supply needing replacement before thermal or power redundancy is compromised.
What Can Be Monitored
- fan test-point failure status
- power supply test-point failure status
- fan/power failure change notifications
- fan/power test-point descriptions
