Description: Manages bulk statistics collection profiles for high-volume counter export on SmartEdge.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-BULKSTATS-MIB?
RBN-BULKSTATS-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from RedBack Networks (later Ericsson SmartEdge) that generically manages the Bulk Statistics Gathering feature on SmartEdge broadband aggregation routers, which periodically exports large volumes of interface and subscriber counters to a remote collection server rather than requiring per-object SNMP polling. Its data centers on the configuration and operational status of that export mechanism: transfer destination IP address/type, transfer policy, and the last transfer's success/failure status. In monitoring terms it is a software/process-health MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB, letting an administrator confirm that the bulk-stats subsystem itself is functioning, i.e., that scheduled exports are actually landing at the collector rather than silently failing. It has no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the device's own SNMPv2-SMI/conformance framework. It is typically deployed on RedBack/Ericsson SmartEdge routers in broadband/edge aggregation networks where high subscriber counts make bulk file-based statistics export more practical than direct SNMP polling of every counter. Engineers can download the RBN-BULKSTATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-BULKSTATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- RedBack Networks / Ericsson SmartEdge broadband router
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrTable / rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrEntry to check rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrStatus (and the redundant/secondary rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrStatus2) alongside rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrIpAddr and rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrPolicy, confirming which policy last ran and whether its transfer to the collector at that IP address succeeded. A status showing repeated failure combined with an unreachable rbnBulkStatsLastTrfrIpAddr2 secondary destination would indicate the bulk-stats export pipeline is broken, meaning downstream reporting systems are not receiving fresh counter data even though the router itself is healthy.
What Can Be Monitored
- last bulk-stats transfer status
- bulk-stats transfer destination IP address
- bulk-stats policy in use
- primary vs. secondary transfer destination status
