Module: RAPID-CITY

OID (symbolic): RAPID-CITY::rcnSonetTrap

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.21.0.10

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description:

A rcSonetTrap trap signifies that the SNMPv2 entity, acting in an agent role, has detected a change of status on a Sonet port.

What is rcnSonetTrap?

This OID represents an alarm notification that fires when a SONET port changes its operational state (up, down, or fault). It alerts you to state changes on high-speed optical line cards without polling. A network operator uses this event to trigger automatic alerting when critical optical links fail or recover.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' RAPID-CITY::rcnSonetTrap
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.21.0.10

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public
