Description:

The BGPBackwardTransition Event is generated when the BGP FSM moves from a higher numbered state to a lower numbered state.

What is rcbgpBackwardTransition?

This trap indicates that a BGP peer has moved to a lower-numbered state, meaning it has suffered a connection degradation or failure (e.g., from Established down to Active). The notification includes the peer IP address, last error code, and current BGP state to aid diagnosis. Network operators use this to detect routing instability, identify flapping peers, and troubleshoot BGP convergence issues.

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):
