rcSysCommReadWriteLayer2

Module: RAPID-CITY

OID (symbolic): RAPID-CITY::rcSysCommReadWriteLayer2

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.1.30

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-write

Description: When an SNMP message is received by this entity, the community string in the message is compared with this string fourth. If it matches, read-write access is granted to all Layer-2 items in the MIB except community strings. (Community strings appear empty when read and return a no such name error when an attempt is made to write them.) If it doesn't match, the rcSysCommReadOnly string is compared next.

What is rcSysCommReadWriteLayer2?

This read-write object specifies a community string (up to 20 characters) used for SNMP authentication that, when matched, grants read-write access to Layer 2 (switching) elements in the MIB. When an SNMP message arrives, the community string is tested against configured values in order; if this string matches, read-write Layer 2 access is granted (except for community strings themselves, which appear empty and cannot be written). Network operators use this to control who can modify Layer 2 configuration parameters on the device.
