This OID holds an Autonomous System Number (a globally unique identifier for networks using BGP routing protocol) used when redistributing routes between separate virtual routing instances. It tells the router which AS number to advertise when sharing routes between different virtual networks. An operator would set this when connecting multiple isolated network segments and needs the router to announce itself with a specific AS number to the outside world.
