rcChasFanUp

Module: RAPID-CITY

OID (symbolic): RAPID-CITY::rcChasFanUp

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.21.21

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: A rcChasFanUp trap signifies that the SNMPv2 entity, acting in an agent role, has detected that the rcChasFanOperStatus object for one of its power supply unit is about to transition into the up state.

What is rcChasFanUp?

This notification (trap) is sent when a chassis fan transitions from a non-operational state to an up/working state, indicating fan recovery or restoration. The trap provides early warning that a previously failed cooling component has been restored, allowing operators to validate system health. Monitoring this trap helps detect transient cooling faults and plan preventive maintenance.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' RAPID-CITY::rcChasFanUp
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.21.21

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:50926->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
  DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (447066350) 51 days, 17:51:03.50
  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: RAPID-CITY::rcChasFanUp

SNMPv3 example:

snmptrap -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3user -a SHA -A "AuthPass1" -x AES -X "PrivPass1" <manager> '' RAPID-CITY::rcChasFanUp
