All MIBs › RANGE-MIB
Organization: MIB Test Group
Last Updated: 1995-12-09
Category: Generic / Unclassified
Description: Defines integer range constraints and boundary test objects used in MIB conformance testing.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RANGE-MIB?
RANGE-MIB is a synthetic test MIB ("Range Test MIB") used to validate SNMP agent/manager handling of integer range constraints and boundary conditions, not a MIB for any real vendor product or network device. It defines a series of generic scalar test objects (obj01 through obj12, plus rangeObj) whose purpose is purely to exercise range-checking logic in SNMP tooling such as PySMI, compilers, or agent simulators. It exposes no meaningful hardware, software, performance, or fault-monitoring data whatsoever since its objects are placeholders for testing numeric bounds rather than real device state. It has no notable dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SMI conventions (SNMPv2-SMI) needed to define ranged INTEGER types. It is typically used only in MIB-compiler/test-suite contexts, never deployed on production network equipment. Engineers can download the RANGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RANGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based test MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer or device -- used only for MIB tooling/compiler testing
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only generic placeholder scalar objects (obj01 through obj12, rangeObj) used to test range/boundary handling in MIB tooling; there are no real hardware or software monitoring scenarios to describe since the objects do not correspond to any actual device state.
