Category: VLAN Management, Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB

Description: Manages VLAN creation, port membership, and tagging configuration on Radlan/Marvell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-vlan-MIB?

RADLAN-vlan-MIB is a private Marvell/Radlan switch MIB providing VLAN configuration and management, covering VLAN naming, per-port tagging mode, and special-purpose VLAN behavior such as voice VLAN and default VLAN handling. It exposes configuration data including VLAN name-to-ID mappings, maximum VLAN table sizing, per-port tagging state, and unknown-traffic flooding flags. While primarily configuration-oriented, its per-port VLAN mode and flooding-behavior fields provide operational-state visibility that helps confirm Layer 2 segmentation is behaving as intended and can reveal misconfigurations causing VLAN leakage or unwanted broadcast/unknown-unicast flooding. It builds on the standard IEEE 802.1Q VLAN model and typically coexists with the standard Q-BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 4363) alongside vendor VLAN extensions. It is deployed on virtually every managed Marvell/Radlan-based switch to configure Layer 2 network segmentation for security, broadcast-domain control, and traffic engineering. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the RADLAN-vlan-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-vlan-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Marvell/Radlan-based managed switch

Monitoring Examples

vlanNameTable/Entry maps a vlanNameName to its vlanNameTag and associated vlanNameIfIndex, letting an admin confirm a given VLAN ID corresponds to the expected name and interface. vlanPortModeTable/Entry's vlanPortModeState shows each port's tagging mode; an admin diagnosing a misbehaving port would check whether it is in the expected access/trunk mode. vlanSendUnknownToAllPorts flags whether unknown-destination traffic is flooded broadly, and an unexpectedly enabled setting on a large VLAN could explain excessive broadcast-domain traffic, while vlanVoice identifies the VLAN designated for voice traffic.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN name-to-ID mapping
  • per-port VLAN tagging mode
  • unknown-traffic flooding behavior per VLAN
  • voice VLAN designation
  • default VLAN configuration
