What Is PRVT-IGMP-SNOOPING-MIB?
PRVT-IGMP-SNOOPING-MIB is a BATM Advanced Communications enterprise MIB (the 'prvt' prefix denotes a private/proprietary tree) that manages IGMP snooping, the mechanism switches use to track IGMP multicast group membership on each port so multicast traffic is forwarded only where needed. It exposes per-service configuration objects such as enabling/disabling snooping, router-alert and IP-TOS validation checks, flood-on-flush behavior, and IGMP querier timer parameters (robustness, query interval, query response interval), along with application-level statistics objects. Its monitoring value centers on multicast forwarding software behavior and configuration correctness: whether snooping is enabled per service instance, whether querier timers are tuned as expected, and whether snooping statistics show expected group-join/leave activity, rather than physical hardware sensors. It builds on the standard IGMP protocol concepts (RFC 2236/3376) though it is a proprietary configuration/statistics layer rather than a direct extension of a standard IGMP MIB. It is deployed on BATM-based carrier/metro Ethernet switches delivering multicast video or IPTV services to subscribers. An operator would poll prvtIgmpSnoopCfgTable entries -- prvtIgmpSnoopCfgEnable, prvtIgmpSnoopCfgSvcId, and prvtIgmpSnoopCfgRowStatus -- to confirm IGMP snooping is active and correctly provisioned for a given service instance. Checking prvtIgmpSnoopCfgTmrQIntvl and prvtIgmpSnoopCfgTmrQRespIntvl against expected querier timing, alongside prvtIgmpSnoopApplStatsObjects counters, would reveal whether multicast group membership refresh is happening on schedule; a stalled counter combined with subscriber complaints of frozen IPTV channels would point to a snooping/querier misconfiguration.
