Category: Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB

Description: Monitors physical sensor entities for temperature, voltage, and environmental conditions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-SENSORENTMIB?

RADLAN-SENSORENTMIB is a private MIB used by Radlan-based switches (a chipset/software platform licensed to many Ethernet switch vendors) for monitoring physical environmental sensors. It exposes a table of physical sensor entities along with their measured values and configured minimum/maximum/test thresholds. This MIB is squarely a hardware health monitoring module, letting administrators track temperature, voltage, or other environmental sensor readings against defined thresholds to detect overheating or power abnormalities before they cause a device fault. It builds on the Entity MIB's physical entity indexing convention, tying sensor readings to specific physical components in the device. It is deployed on a wide range of managed Ethernet switches built on the Radlan software base, common among various OEM switch vendors. Engineers can download the RADLAN-SENSORENTMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-SENSORENTMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Radlan-based managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rlEntPhySensorTable entries and compare the current reading against rlEnvPhySensorMinValue and rlEnvPhySensorMaxValue for each entry to detect a sensor drifting out of its safe range, such as a temperature sensor exceeding its maximum threshold. The rlEnvPhySensorTestValue could also be checked to validate sensor calibration or trigger a diagnostic test.

What Can Be Monitored

  • physical sensor readings
  • temperature thresholds
  • voltage thresholds
  • sensor min/max limits
  • sensor test values
