Description: Configures the embedded RADIUS server for local authentication on Radlan switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RADLAN-RADIUSSRV?
RADLAN-RADIUSSRV is a private MIB from Radlan (whose switch software has been licensed/embedded by numerous switch vendors) for configuring and monitoring an embedded local RADIUS server used for authentication, authorization, and accounting on the switch. It exposes server-level configuration (enable state, authentication/accounting UDP ports, default shared key and its MD5 form) and defines dedicated trap objects for accounting events, authentication failures, and authentication successes. It also organizes clients/users into RADIUS server groups with per-group VLAN assignment. Its monitoring value is software/service status focused: administrators can confirm the embedded RADIUS service is enabled and correctly ported, and use the trap objects to be alerted in near-real time to authentication failures that might indicate misconfigured clients or a credential-guessing attempt. It depends on general RADIUS protocol conventions (RFC 2865/2866) reimplemented locally rather than delegating to an external RADIUS server MIB, and sits in Radlan's private enterprise OID branch reused across many switch vendors. It is deployed on Radlan-based (often white-label) managed switches offering local 802.1X/RADIUS authentication without a separate RADIUS server. Engineers can download the RADLAN-RADIUSSRV file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-RADIUSSRV. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Radlan-based (OEM/white-label) managed Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check rlRadiusServEnable and rlRadiusServAuthPort/rlRadiusServAcctPort to confirm the embedded RADIUS service is running on the expected ports, then monitor for rlRadiusServTrapAuthFailure notifications to catch repeated failed login attempts against a specific client. Reviewing rlRadiusServGroupTable/rlRadiusServGroupEntry, indexed by rlRadiusServGroupName, would let the administrator confirm that a given user group is mapped to the correct rlRadiusServGroupVLAN, catching a misassignment that would place authenticated users on the wrong VLAN.
What Can Be Monitored
- embedded RADIUS server enable state
- authentication/accounting port configuration
- authentication success/failure traps
- accounting event traps
- RADIUS group-to-VLAN mapping
