Description: Configures Quantized Congestion Notification (IEEE 802.1Qau) for data center congestion management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-QCN-MIB?

RADLAN-QCN-MIB is a RADLAN (now Marvell) switch-software MIB implementing IEEE 802.1Qau Quantized Congestion Notification, used by data-center switches supporting converged/lossless Ethernet (DCB) to signal upstream traffic sources to throttle when congestion is detected. It exposes global and per-priority/per-interface configuration for QCN, including feature enable state, per-priority admin/operational enable status, congestion-point PFC and non-PFC set points, and feedback weight/sampling parameters. This MIB is used to monitor the software/protocol-level congestion-control status of a switch's data-center ports — whether QCN is enabled and operating on a given priority/interface, and the reason if it's administratively disabled — which helps diagnose microburst congestion or unexpected throughput throttling in DCB fabrics. It directly implements the IEEE 802.1Qau standard, layering RADLAN-specific configuration objects on top of that standard's congestion-notification model. It is deployed on data-center switches built on Marvell/RADLAN switch silicon and software in converged Ethernet/FCoE fabrics. Engineers can download the RADLAN-QCN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-QCN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • data-center switches with DCB/802.1Qau support (Marvell/RADLAN-based switch silicon)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check rlQcnFeatureStatus to confirm QCN is enabled switch-wide, then walk rlQcnPriorityStateTable/rlQcnPriorityStateEntry to verify rlQcnPriorityOperStateEnable per priority and inspect rlQcnPriorityAdminStateReason if a priority shows disabled unexpectedly. Checking rlQcnIfStateTable/rlQcnIfStateEntry per rlQcnIfStateIfIndex reveals whether congestion-point creation (rlQcnIfStateCpCreationEn) is active on a specific interface, which would explain unexpected throughput throttling on that port during a congestion event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • QCN feature enable state
  • per-priority QCN admin/operational status
  • congestion-point set points
  • per-interface QCN state
  • admin-disable reason codes
