Description: Manages Cisco Small Business Switch Configuration Template (SCT) for bulk port provisioning.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCOSB-SCT-MIB?

CISCOSB-SCT-MIB implements the Switch Configuration Template (SCT) feature on Cisco Small Business switches, which lets administrators define a reusable configuration profile and apply it in bulk across multiple ports. Its exposed objects center on CPU protection settings within a template, specifically whether CPU rate limiting is enabled and what rate threshold is configured, making it a configuration-and-resource-protection MIB rather than a general telemetry MIB. From a hardware/software health perspective, the CPU rate objects are directly relevant to monitoring device stability, since uncontrolled control-plane traffic from many ports can overload the switch CPU and degrade management responsiveness. It is part of the Cisco Small Business private enterprise MIB tree and complements resource-monitoring modules like CISCOSB-SYSMNG-MIB that report actual CPU/resource usage. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switches where administrators standardize port configuration through templates. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-SCT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-SCT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Small Business switches

Monitoring Examples

rlSctCpuRateEnabled shows whether CPU rate limiting is turned on for a given configuration template, and rlSctCpuRate exposes the configured maximum rate. An administrator rolling out a bulk port template across dozens of access ports would verify these values to make sure the applied template won't allow excessive control-plane traffic from misbehaving devices to spike CPU load.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CPU rate-limiting enabled status
  • configured CPU rate threshold
  • port configuration template assignment

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rlSctCpuRate OID:

Select a Cisco Small Business switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rlSctCpuRate into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The amount of packets per second the CPU is handling. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if utilization exceeds 85%, a common warning threshold before sustained high load affects performance. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
