Description: Configures DNS client settings including server addresses and domain search lists.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-DNSCL-MIB?

RADLAN-DNSCL-MIB is a RADLAN/Marvell-derived private MIB for managed Ethernet switches that configures the device's DNS client behavior, including DNS server addresses, domain search lists, and retransmission tuning. It exposes primarily configuration-oriented data: enabling/disabling the DNS client, defining domain name entries with ownership and row-status control, and setting retry counts and intervals for DNS queries. From a monitoring standpoint it is used to verify that the switch's own name-resolution service is correctly configured and operating, which indirectly affects the reliability of other software features (like syslog, NTP, or RADIUS) that depend on hostname resolution. It has no formal dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMP conventions, though it complements standard IP-MIB and DNS-related management practice. It is typically deployed on enterprise or SMB Ethernet switches where DNS client settings need to be managed alongside other IP services. Engineers can download the RADLAN-DNSCL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-DNSCL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Marvell/RADLAN-based managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can inspect rlDnsClEnable to confirm the DNS client is active and walk rlDnsClDomainNameTable/rlDnsClDomainNameEntry to verify configured domain suffixes via rlDnsClDomainNameName and rlDnsClDomainNameOwner. Checking rlDnsClMaxNumOfRetransmissions and rlDnsClMinRetransmissionInterval reveals whether retry tuning is too aggressive or too lax, which would explain slow or failed name resolution on the switch. The rlDnsClNamesTable/rlDnsClNamesEntry with rlDnsClNamesName lets an operator confirm configured DNS server names are as expected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured domain search suffixes
  • DNS retransmission count and interval
