Module: RAD-MIB
OID (symbolic): RAD-MIB::atmAceDateAndTimeRequest
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.164.6.1.12.0.8
Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE
Description: This trap is sent upon restart. Upon recieving this trap the NMS will set the device's date and time. This trap's purpose is to fix a problem in ACE2002, ACE-2002E, ACE-202. The problem is that the Date and Time is stored in the NVRAM, and when the NVRAM's battery is empty, the device loses this information.
What is atmAceDateAndTimeRequest?
This SNMP notification (trap) is sent when an ATM ACE device restarts, requesting that the Network Management System (NMS) set the device's date and time. It exists because some ACE models store date/time in battery-backed NVRAM, which loses power and requires synchronization on restart. An operator receiving this trap must push the current date and time to the device to ensure correct logging and scheduling.
Examples
Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' RAD-MIB::atmAceDateAndTimeRequest snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.164.6.1.12.0.8
Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):
snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public
Example snmptrapd log entry:
zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:57446->[192.168.30.10]:162]: DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (120820326) 13 days, 23:36:43.26 SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: RAD-MIB::atmAceDateAndTimeRequest
