Category: Server Hardware Monitoring

Description: Provides NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents trap notifications for GRMPD cluster multipath daemon fault events on Linux servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-LinGrmpdTrap-MIB?

PSA-LinGrmpdTrap-MIB is part of NEC's ESMPRO ServerAgent suite, a hardware/software server-management technology area, and specifically carries trap notifications from GRMPD, a cluster multipath daemon fault-monitoring component on Linux servers. It exposes fault/event notification data rather than polled tables: partition and unit identifiers, event level and ID, and detailed hardware identification (model, serial, part, and stepping numbers) of the suspect component. Its explicit purpose is software/hardware fault monitoring -- alerting administrators when the multipath daemon detects a storage path or cluster partition problem, identifying the specific suspect hardware unit involved. It is one of a family of NEC ESMPRO Linux trap MIBs sharing a common trap object set (trapEventLevel, trapEventId, trapUnitName, etc.), implying a shared base convention across NEC's Linux agent trap modules. It is deployed on NEC Express5800-series or similar servers running ESMPRO ServerAgent for Linux in clustered, multipath-storage-attached environments. Engineers can download the PSA-LinGrmpdTrap-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-LinGrmpdTrap-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NEC Express5800-series servers running ESMPRO ServerAgent for Linux
  • clustered multipath storage server nodes

Monitoring Examples

An administrator's trap receiver would capture a GRMPD trap carrying trapPartitionName/trapPartitionId, trapEventLevel, and trapEventId to identify which cluster partition raised a multipath fault and how severe it is. The trapSuspect, trapModelNo, and trapSerialNo fields would be used to pinpoint the specific physical unit (e.g. a failed HBA or storage path) responsible for the alert, cross-referenced with trapUnitName and trapMmbVip for server identification in a management blade/chassis context. Repeated high-severity trapEventLevel occurrences for the same trapPartitionId would indicate a persistent multipath failover problem needing hardware attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cluster partition fault events
  • event severity level
  • suspect hardware unit identification
  • multipath daemon (GRMPD) fault status
