Category: Fibre Channel and SAN, Server Hardware Monitoring

Description: Provides NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents trap notifications for Emulex Fibre Channel HBA driver fault events on Linux servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-LinEmulexTrap-MIB?

PSA-LinEmulexTrap-MIB is part of NEC's ESMPRO ServerAgent suite and defines SNMP trap notifications specifically for Emulex Fibre Channel HBA (Host Bus Adapter) driver fault events on Linux-based NEC servers. Rather than polled tables, it is a trap-oriented module: its objects carry contextual detail delivered at the moment of a fault, including partition name/ID, event level and ID, server unit name, management-blade VIP, and hardware identifiers (part number, stepping, serial number, model number) plus a suspect-component indicator. Its monitoring focus is squarely hardware fault/status reporting -- flagging Emulex HBA driver-detected problems (e.g., link loss, adapter failure) as asynchronous alerts rather than continuously polled counters. As part of ESMPRO ServerAgent, it depends on and is correlated with NEC's broader ESMPRO server-management MIB suite and the underlying Emulex driver's own event model. It is deployed on NEC Express5800-class Linux servers equipped with Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs in SAN-attached environments, where the PSA-LinEmulexTrap-MIB MIB supplies the trap definitions used to catch HBA driver faults.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-LinEmulexTrap-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server partition, Linux, Emulex Fibre Channel HBA (driver fault traps)

Monitoring Examples

When an Emulex driver detects a fault, this MIB's trap would carry trapEventLevel and trapEventId to classify severity/type, trapUnitName and trapPartitionName/trapPartitionId to identify which server or logical partition raised it, and trapSerialNo/trapModelNo/trapPartNo to identify the specific HBA hardware. trapSuspect flags a suspect component for follow-up. An NMS receiving a high-severity trapEventLevel here would alert on-call staff to check SAN connectivity or replace a failing HBA on the named unit.

What Can Be Monitored

  • HBA fault event level and ID
  • affected server/partition identity
  • HBA serial/model/part number
  • suspect component indicator
