What Is RADLAN-GMRP-MIB?

RADLAN-GMRP-MIB is a vendor-specific private MIB from RADLAN/Marvell implementing the GARP Multicast Registration Protocol (GMRP), which lets switch ports dynamically register interest in multicast group traffic to constrain flooding. It exposes per-port GMRP timer configuration (join/leave/leave-all timers), per-VLAN GMRP enable state, and general feature-support/version information. Its monitoring role is software/protocol configuration and operational status — whether GMRP is supported and enabled per VLAN, and whether port timers are tuned appropriately — rather than hardware sensor data, helping an operator confirm multicast group registration is behaving correctly across the bridge. It is a proprietary extension aligned with the IEEE 802.1D/802.1Q GARP/GMRP standard rather than a full standards-based MIB implementation. It is typically deployed on RADLAN/Marvell-based managed switches in networks using dynamic multicast group pruning, such as those running IPTV or multicast-heavy applications. Engineers can download the RADLAN-GMRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-GMRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GMRP support/version
  • GMRP enable state per VLAN
  • port join/leave/leave-all timer settings
  • GARP override state per port

Supported Devices

  • RADLAN/Marvell-based managed Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check rlGmrpSupported and rlGmrpVlanTable/rlGmrpVlanEntry (rlGmrpVlanEnable) to confirm GMRP is active on the relevant VLANs, and inspect rlPortGmrpTimersTable/rlPortGmrpTimersEntry for rlPortGmrpJoinTime, rlPortGmrpLeaveTime, and rlPortGmrpLeaveAllTime to verify timer settings are not causing premature multicast group deregistration. Unexpectedly short leave timers combined with intermittent multicast stream drops on a port would point to a GMRP timer misconfiguration.
