Module: PORT-MIB

OID (symbolic): PORT-MIB::mib2IfIndex

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.5812.3.2.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: InterfaceIndex

Description: This variable serves to identify the slot and port number.

What is mib2IfIndex?

This value ties a Coriolis chassis port (identified by slot and port number) to the standard ifIndex used in the IF-MIB and MIB-II interface tables. An admin uses it to cross-reference a physical port shown in this vendor-specific port table with the generic interface counters and status objects everyone else polls. For example, mib2IfIndex might return 12, telling you that slot/port entry maps to ifTable row 12 for traffic and status lookups.
