Category: DSL and Broadband

Description: Manages bridging and VLAN forwarding functions on the Paradyne Multi-Port Ethernet (MPE) expansion module.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-MPE-BRIDGE-MIB?

PDN-MPE-BRIDGE-MIB is a Paradyne enterprise MIB for the Multi-Port Ethernet (MPE) expansion module, managing 802.1D bridging and VLAN forwarding behavior. It exposes generic bridge configuration objects and a bridge forwarding database (filtering database) that records learned MAC address to port mappings. It is used to monitor the software-level status of the bridging function, such as the size and contents of the forwarding database and overall bridge state, which helps identify MAC learning problems, forwarding loops, or VLAN misconfiguration on the module rather than physical hardware faults. It mirrors the structure of the standard IETF BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 4188) dot1dTpFdb concepts, applied as a Paradyne-specific extension for the MPE card. It is deployed on Paradyne DSL access platforms fitted with the MPE Ethernet bridging module, and technicians supporting these platforms can perform a PDN-MPE-BRIDGE-MIB download to load the module into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-MPE-BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne MPE Ethernet module
  • DSL access multiplexer expansion card

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would query mpePdnDot1dTpFdb (modeled on dot1dTpFdbTable) to see which MAC addresses are currently learned on which bridge ports, useful for tracing a connectivity issue to a specific port. Reviewing mpePdnDot1dGenericBridge configuration confirms bridging mode and VLAN forwarding settings are as provisioned. Traps under mpePdnBridgeMIBTraps would signal bridge topology or forwarding anomalies such as unexpected MAC flapping.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bridge forwarding database (learned MAC addresses)
  • bridge/VLAN configuration
  • bridging trap events
