Category: IP Services

Description: Manages IP multicast routing, IGMP snooping configuration, and multicast forwarding state on Paradyne DSLAM platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-IP-MULTICAST-MIB?

PDN-IP-MULTICAST-MIB is a Paradyne enterprise MIB module for managing IGMP and IP multicast operation on Paradyne DSLAM and access platforms. It exposes configuration objects for IGMP proxy behavior and report summarization, along with statistics counters that reflect multicast forwarding and group membership activity. Operationally it is used to monitor the software-level status of the multicast/IGMP proxy feature, such as whether proxying and report summarization are enabled and how the proxy is tracking group state, which helps identify misconfiguration or stalled multicast forwarding rather than hardware faults. It builds on the general SNMPv2 SMI conventions and IGMP/IP multicast concepts standardized by the IETF, layered as a Paradyne-specific extension rather than a direct replacement of a standard multicast MIB. It is typically deployed on Paradyne DSL access multiplexers in carrier or enterprise access networks delivering multicast-based services such as IPTV to subscribers. Engineers can download the PDN-IP-MULTICAST-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-IP-MULTICAST-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne DSLAM
  • DSL access multiplexer

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll pdnIgmpProxyEnableDisable and pdnIgmpProxyReportSummaryEnableDisable to confirm IGMP proxy and report-summarization features are active on a given DSLAM, and check counters under pdnIpMcastStats for multicast packet and group activity. A drop in reported multicast statistics while pdnIgmpProxyEnableDisable remains enabled could indicate the proxy has stopped forwarding group reports correctly. Traps defined under pdnIpMcastNotifications would alert on multicast-related state changes needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP proxy enable/disable state
  • IGMP report summarization status
  • multicast forwarding statistics
  • multicast notification/trap events
