Description: Extends standard ENTITY-MIB with Palo Alto Networks-specific hardware component and resource attributes.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PAN-ENTITY-EXT-MIB?
PAN-ENTITY-EXT-MIB is a Palo Alto Networks MIB that extends the standard IETF ENTITY-MIB with vendor-specific hardware component and resource attributes for Palo Alto's next-generation firewall appliances. It builds on the physical-entity model (chassis, slots, modules, sensors) defined by ENTITY-MIB, adding Palo Alto-specific fields describing hardware components in more detail. Its monitoring purpose is squarely hardware status: extended entity attributes typically cover things like power supply state, fan status, temperature sensors, and component health for the firewall's physical chassis. It is explicitly dependent on and only meaningful alongside the standard ENTITY-MIB, whose entPhysicalTable it augments. It is deployed on Palo Alto Networks firewall/security appliances in enterprise and data-center perimeter security roles. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the PAN-ENTITY-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PAN-ENTITY-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Palo Alto Networks firewall appliance
Monitoring Examples
No object names were captured in this extract, but as an ENTITY-MIB extension, an administrator would typically correlate its extended attributes with entPhysicalIndex entries from the standard ENTITY-MIB to get Palo Alto-specific detail (e.g. component health or sensor readings) for a given chassis component. Because sample_objects is empty here, specific extended object names cannot be confirmed from this extract.
What Can Be Monitored
- hardware component health (via ENTITY-MIB extension)
- chassis/module status
- sensor/attribute detail per physical entity
