Category: Security

Description: Manages D-Link switch security features including port security and storm control.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MY-SECURITY-MIB?

MY-SECURITY-MIB is a D-Link enterprise MIB covering security-related management features on D-Link switches, including enabling/disabling the SNMP agent, web management interface, and Telnet access, plus host-based access restriction tables for Telnet and web management. It exposes configuration and enable/disable status objects (myEnableSnmpAgent, myEnableWeb, myEnableTelnet) along with tables of permitted host IP addresses for Telnet (myTelnetHostIpTable) and web (myWebHostIpTable) access, and a broader security address table. It is used to monitor the software status of the switch's management-plane security posture — whether risky management protocols like Telnet or the SNMP agent are enabled, and whether host-based access restrictions are correctly populated — important for confirming a device hasn't drifted from its intended security hardening. As a self-contained vendor MIB it has no notable dependency on external standard MIBs beyond the base SNMP framework. It is typically deployed by network security/operations teams auditing D-Link switch configurations across an estate to ensure management interfaces are locked down per policy, often after completing a MY-SECURITY-MIB download to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-SECURITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll myEnableTelnet and myEnableWeb to confirm insecure management protocols are disabled where policy requires it, and walk myTelnetHostIpTable/myTelnetHostIpEntry (myTelnetHostIpAddress, myTelnetHostIpEnable) and myWebHostIpTable/myWebHostIpEntry to verify only authorized management-station IPs are permitted. A switch reporting myEnableTelnet true with an empty or overly broad myTelnetHostIpTable would flag a security exposure allowing Telnet access from any host.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SNMP agent enabled/disabled
  • web management enabled/disabled
  • Telnet enabled/disabled
  • authorized Telnet host addresses
  • authorized web management host addresses
