Category: Security

Description: Defines the enterprise OID registration hierarchy for Palo Alto Networks firewall and security platform MIBs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PAN-GLOBAL-REG?

PAN-GLOBAL-REG is Palo Alto Networks' top-level enterprise OID registration module, defining the sub-tree structure under which all of Palo Alto's firewall and security-platform MIB modules are organized. It is a purely structural/registration MIB and does not itself expose interfaces, performance counters, or fault data. Any PAN-GLOBAL-REG SNMP polling therefore returns no meaningful values on its own, since it exists purely for OID organization. Its role in monitoring is indirect: the actual hardware/software status data for Palo Alto firewalls—such as session counts, CPU/memory load, HA status, and GlobalProtect statistics—lives in the separate PAN-COMMON-MIB and related modules that register their OIDs beneath this tree. Every other Palo Alto MIB module depends on this one for its OID placement, making it a foundational dependency rather than a data source. It is deployed universally wherever Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls or Panorama management systems are present, as the root of their SNMP namespace.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PAN-GLOBAL-REG. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Palo Alto Networks firewall/security platforms, entire PAN-OS product line (shared OID registration root)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were extracted for this module, matching its purpose as a bare OID hierarchy definition rather than a source of pollable data. A monitoring tool would never query this MIB directly for values; instead it uses the object identifiers it defines as the base path for objects found in PAN-COMMON-MIB and other Palo Alto modules. There is no runtime monitoring scenario to describe for this module in isolation.
