Description: Manages ADSL line configuration, training status, and performance statistics on PairGain DSL access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PAIRGAIN-ADSL-MIB?

PAIRGAIN-ADSL-MIB is a vendor enterprise MIB from PairGain Technologies, a DSL access equipment maker later absorbed into ADC/Tellabs, supplementing standard ADSL management with vendor-specific enhancements to ADSL service configuration and line status. It generally exposes objects for ADSL line configuration parameters, training/handshake state, and per-line performance statistics such as signal margin, attenuation, and error counts layered on top of standard ADSL line objects. In monitoring terms it is used to track the operational health of DSL lines -- whether a line has trained successfully, its current sync rate, and error/performance counters indicating a marginal or degraded copper loop. It is explicitly built as an enhancement to the IETF ADSL-LINE-MIB (RFC 2662), reusing its per-line indexing conventions rather than replacing them. It would be deployed on PairGain ADSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs) or ADSL modems in telco central-office and CPE deployments. Engineers can download the PAIRGAIN-ADSL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PAIRGAIN-ADSL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • PairGain ADSL DSLAM/access multiplexer
  • PairGain ADSL modem/CPE

Monitoring Examples

No specific object names are available for this module (empty sample list), so a concrete polling scenario cannot cite real object names; a typical use would still follow the ADSL-LINE-MIB pattern of checking a line's current sync rate, signal-to-noise margin, and line-code violation counts against thresholds. A degrading margin or rising error count on a given ADSL line would indicate a failing or noisy copper pair needing a truck roll. This description is intentionally general given the lack of grounded object names.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ADSL line training/sync status
  • signal margin/attenuation
  • line error counters
  • line configuration parameters
