Category: DSL

Description: Manages system event log configuration and retrieval on PairGain Technologies DSL access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PAIRGAIN-SYS-LOG-MIB?

PAIRGAIN-SYS-LOG-MIB is a PairGain Technologies MIB for managing the system event log on PairGain DSL access equipment, allowing retrieval and configuration of stored log entries from the device. It exposes a system log table with per-entry identifier, timestamp, log-entry type, originating slot ID, and a textual description field. Its monitoring value is squarely software/system status: polling this table lets an administrator retrieve recent system events (errors, state changes, or faults) recorded by the device firmware, functioning as a lightweight remote event log/audit trail rather than a real-time counter or sensor MIB. It is a self-contained proprietary MIB without an apparent formal dependency on a standard logging MIB (such as SYSLOG-MSG-MIB). It is typically deployed on PairGain DSL access multiplexers and remote terminal equipment, where PAIRGAIN-SYS-LOG-MIB SNMP monitoring provides centralized retrieval of device event history for fault diagnosis.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PAIRGAIN-SYS-LOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • PairGain DSL access multiplexers and remote terminal equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll pgSystemLogTable/pgSystemLogEntry ordered by pgSystemLogId, reading pgSystemLogTimeStamp, pgSystemLogType, pgSystemLogSlotId, and pgSystemLogDescription to review recent device events. A cluster of new log entries with an error-indicating pgSystemLogType and a consistent pgSystemLogSlotId would reveal a specific line card or slot repeatedly logging faults, pointing to a hardware problem on that slot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • system log entries (id, timestamp, type)
  • originating slot ID of logged events
  • log entry description/fault text
