What Is PACKETFRONT-SMI?

PACKETFRONT-SMI is PacketFront Systems' Structure of Management Information module, establishing the company's enterprise OID root and registration hierarchy under which all other PacketFront MIB modules are organized. It defines no data objects of its own, only the naming/registration tree used by companion PacketFront MIBs (broadband access and Ethernet aggregation equipment). Consequently it contributes nothing directly to monitoring hardware or software status; it is purely a namespace scaffold that companion PacketFront MIBs build on for their actual interface, performance, and fault objects. It has no dependency beyond the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprise numbering scheme. Deployment context is PacketFront broadband service edge and access switches in carrier/ISP access networks. A PACKETFRONT-SMI reference is generally needed only when tracing an OID back to confirm it falls within PacketFront's registered enterprise branch, rather than for any direct data polling.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PACKETFRONT-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • PacketFront broadband access/aggregation switch

Monitoring Examples

This is a pure SMI/registration module with an empty sample_objects list and no runtime data objects; it defines only OID branch assignments consumed by other PacketFront MIBs, so there is honestly no monitoring scenario to describe for this module itself.
