Category: Nortel Passport WAN

Description: Provides base trace logging and diagnostic capture objects for Nortel MsCarrier Passport switch subsystems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-TraceBaseMIB?

This MIB module manages the base trace/diagnostic logging subsystem on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches, providing the framework for capturing protocol and software traces used to diagnose faults on the node. It exposes provisioning objects for trace instances (mscTraceRowStatusTable) and trace receiver instances (mscTraceRcvrRowStatusTable) that define where captured trace data is delivered, along with standard component-identity/storage-type objects for each. Administrators use it to monitor whether trace collection and its associated receiver instances are active and correctly provisioned, a software-diagnostic health check confirming the node's fault-capture pipeline (used to troubleshoot hardware and protocol issues elsewhere on the switch) is functioning. It reuses the common MsCarrier Passport row-status/component-naming conventions shared with sibling MIBs in the suite. It is deployed on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches whenever engineers need to capture and route diagnostic traces during troubleshooting. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-TraceBaseMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-TraceBaseMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check mscTraceRowStatusTable's mscTraceRowStatus to confirm a configured trace instance (identified by mscTraceIndex) is active and actually capturing data, then check mscTraceRcvrRowStatusTable to verify the paired trace receiver is also active and correctly forwarding captured output. A trace instance stuck in a non-active row status would explain why expected diagnostic data isn't being collected during a troubleshooting session.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trace instance row status
  • trace receiver row status
  • component storage type
  • trace/receiver component naming
