Category: Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport, QoS / Traffic Management

Description: Provides SNMP objects for DPRS quality-of-service parameters on module interfaces of Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-ModDprsQosMIB?

This Nortel MIB, from the MscPassport family for the Nortel Passport WAN switching platform, manages Quality of Service parameters for DPRS (a Nortel frame relay-based fast packet service) traffic on module-level network interfaces. It exposes provisioning objects for network-level and traffic-parameter-mapping (TPM) QoS components tied to specific frame relay DPRS network connections. Its monitoring relevance is mainly configuration/software-state oriented: administrators verify that QoS network and TPM components are properly provisioned and in an active row state, since a component left uninitialized or destroyed would mean QoS policy is not being applied to the associated frame relay traffic. It relies on the shared MscPassport component-object model (row status, storage type, index) used throughout the Passport MIB family rather than a generic IETF QoS MIB. It is deployed on carrier Nortel Passport switches carrying DPRS frame relay services where per-connection QoS enforcement must be configured and verified. Engineers can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-ModDprsQosMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-ModDprsQosMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Passport WAN switch module interfaces (DPRS/frame relay)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator queries mscModFrsDprsNetRowStatusTable keyed by mscModFrsDprsNetIndex to confirm a DPRS network QoS component's mscModFrsDprsNetRowStatus is active, then checks the associated mscModFrsDprsNetTpmRowStatusTable entry to verify the traffic-parameter-mapping sub-component (mscModFrsDprsNetTpmRowStatus) is also active. If QoS enforcement appears absent on a frame relay circuit, finding the TPM row status in notInService while the parent network component shows active would pinpoint the specific QoS mapping that failed to provision.

What Can Be Monitored

  • QoS network component row status
  • TPM (traffic parameter mapping) row status
  • component storage type
  • QoS provisioning index
