Category: Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport, System Management & Provisioning

Description: Defines SNMP extension objects providing additional management capabilities on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-ExtensionsMIB?

This MIB defines vendor extension objects on the Nortel MSC Passport mobile carrier switch that supplement standard interface management with MSC Passport-specific attributes. Its one runtime data table, mscExtensionIfTable, extends the standard interfaces table with additional per-interface attributes, while the bulk of the module (extensionsGroupCA01A and similar deeply nested branches) defines AGENT-CAPABILITIES-style compliance/capability groupings rather than monitorable data. Consequently its monitoring value is limited: it is honestly more of a conformance/extension declaration module indicating which optional interface features a given software release supports, layered on top of the standard interfaces MIB, rather than a rich telemetry source. It depends heavily on the standard IETF interfaces MIB (ifTable/ifIndex) that it extends, plus the Passport component conventions. It is deployed wherever standard interface management needs MSC Passport-specific extension attributes not covered by the base interfaces MIB alone. Engineers can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-ExtensionsMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-ExtensionsMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel MSC Passport mobile carrier switch

Monitoring Examples

The only runtime data table in this module, mscExtensionIfTable/mscExtensionIfEntry, extends the standard interfaces table with MSC Passport-specific per-interface attributes; an administrator would poll it alongside standard interface status objects to get the extra vendor detail for a given interface. The remainder of the module, such as the extensionsGroupCA01A branch, defines capability/compliance groupings rather than monitorable objects, indicating which optional features a software release supports. Because it is largely a conformance/extension declaration rather than a stats-rich MIB, it offers limited monitoring value beyond the single interface extension table.
