Description: Provides SNMP objects for ATM Multiprotocol Encapsulation (MPE) interface management on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmMpeMIB?

Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmMpeMIB is a Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport enterprise MIB that models the AtmMpe component - a logical interface implementing RFC 1483 Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM, letting a Virtual Router protocol port carry IP or IPX traffic across one or more ATM virtual channel connections. It exposes provisioning data in mscAtmMpeProvTable (mscAtmMpeMaxTransmissionUnit, mscAtmMpeEncapType choosing llcEncap/ipVcEncap/ipxVcEncap, mscAtmMpeIlsForwarder) and mscAtmMpeMediaProvTable (mscAtmMpeLinkToProtocolPort), plus OSI-style admin/operational/usage state objects in mscAtmMpeStateTable and mscAtmMpeOperStatusTable. Each AtmMpe's underlying virtual channels are modeled as mscAtmMpeAc (AtmConnection) sub-components, with mscAtmMpeAcStatsTable tracking per-connection in/out packet, octet, discard, unknown-protocol and error counters. This is a legacy carrier-class MIB deployed on Nortel/Bay Networks Passport multiservice switching platforms rather than a modern enterprise device, and administrators can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmMpeMIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-AtmMpeMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel/Bay Networks Passport MscPassport carrier multiservice switching platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls mscAtmMpeAcStatsTable to check mscAtmMpeAcInErrors and mscAtmMpeAcOutDiscards for a given mscAtmMpeAcIndex; a rising discard count alongside mscAtmMpeAcOperationalState reporting disabled(0) would point to a failing or congested ATM virtual channel under that AtmMpe interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • AtmMpe interface admin/operational/usage state
  • RFC 1483 encapsulation type configuration
  • ATM connection (AtmMpeAc) in/out packet and octet counters
  • ATM connection error and discard counters
  • customer identifier (CID) provisioning
  • MTU and protocol-port linkage
