Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DC-OPT-MIB?
DC-OPT-MIB is a vendor-private MIB (registered under the Codex enterprise OID, codex.cdxProductSpecific.cdx6500) that defines optional Data Compression (DC) management objects for the Codex 6500 statistical multiplexer product line, despite its DC-OPT-MIB name suggesting a link to the unrelated 'Data Connection' company -- the source module is unambiguously scoped to Codex 6500 hardware. It provides general DC statistics in cdx6500DCGenStatTable, such as cdx6500DCGenStatDSPStatus (up/down/missing) for the DC SIMM/DSP hardware, cdx6500DCGenStatMaxChannels versus cdx6500DCGenStatChanInUse, cdx6500DCGenStatRejectConn for calls turned away due to channel exhaustion, and encoder/decoder queue-depth objects; a per-channel cdx6500DCChanStatTable, indexed by channel number, reports cdx6500DCChanStatChanState (idle/negotiating/dataPassing/clearing, etc.), cdx6500DCChanStatXmitCRatio compression ratio, frame/byte counters for both encoder and decoder, and error counters like cdx6500DCChanStatDSWithBadFrames/BadHeaders; a cdx6500ContDC branch provides write-only reset controls per channel. Because it directly exposes DSP hardware health and per-channel compression performance, it is useful for detecting a failed DC SIMM, channel exhaustion under load, or a channel producing corrupted frames. It depends only on RFC1155-SMI/RFC-1212 base conventions and the parent Codex enterprise MIB tree, and is deployed on Codex 6500 multiplexers in legacy WAN data-compression deployments; administrators can download the DC-OPT-MIB file to monitor Data Compression channel health on these devices.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DC-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Codex 6500-series statistical multiplexer/data compression modules (Motorola Codex)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls cdx6500DCGenStatTable to confirm cdx6500DCGenStatDSPStatus reports up(2) and compares cdx6500DCGenStatChanInUse against cdx6500DCGenStatMaxChannels for headroom, then checks cdx6500DCChanStatTable for a specific channel's cdx6500DCChanStatDSWithBadFrames counter; a DSP status of down(1) combined with a rising cdx6500DCGenStatRejectConn count would indicate the compression hardware has failed and new calls are being rejected.
What Can Be Monitored
- DC (Data Compression) SIMM/DSP hardware status
- active vs. maximum data-compression channels in use
- call requests rejected due to channel unavailability
- per-channel compression ratio and channel state
- encoder/decoder frame and byte counters
- corrupted/bad-header decoded frame counters
