Category: ATM

Description: Manages Nortel Magellan Passport ATM multiprotocol encapsulation configuration and routed PDU handling.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmMpeMIB?

Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmMpeMIB is a vendor-specific enterprise SNMP module (organization "Nortel", subtree passportMIBs 65) that models the ATM Multiprotocol Encapsulation (AtmMpe) component of the Nortel Magellan Passport wide-area switch, representing the logical interface between a Virtual Router and an ATM media interface using RFC 1483 encapsulation. Its atmMpeRowStatusTable and atmMpeProvTable let an operator provision AtmMpe instances, set atmMpeMaxTransmissionUnit and atmMpeEncapType (llcEncap, ipVcEncap, or ipxVcEncap), and link each instance to a protocol port via atmMpeLinkToProtocolPort; the atmMpeStateTable exposes OSI-style atmMpeAdminState/atmMpeOperationalState/atmMpeUsageState, while the nested AtmConnection (atmMpeAc) branch tracks per-VCC frame statistics in atmMpeAcStatsTable (atmMpeAcOutPackets, atmMpeAcInErrors, atmMpeAcOutDiscards). It imports component-naming and textual-convention definitions from Nortel-Magellan-Passport-UsefulDefinitionsMIB, -StandardTextualConventionsMIB, and -TextualConventionsMIB, and is deployed alongside the rest of the Passport component-based enterprise MIB family used to manage Magellan Passport ATM/IP switches; administrators can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmMpeMIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-AtmMpeMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport ATM/IP wide-area switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls atmMpeAcInErrors and atmMpeAcOutDiscards on an AtmConnection under a given AtmMpe component to check the health of an RFC 1483-encapsulated virtual channel, and a rising atmMpeAcOutDiscards count alongside atmMpeAcOperationalState reporting disabled would indicate congestion or a failed ATM link preventing outbound frames from reaching the peer.

What Can Be Monitored

  • AtmMpe component row status and provisioning (MTU, encapsulation type)
  • Administrative/operational/usage state per AtmMpe and AtmConnection
  • AtmConnection inbound/outbound packet and octet counters
  • Inbound errors and unknown-protocol discards per connection
  • Outbound discard counts
  • IP CoS and connection speed on AtmConnections
