Category: IP SLA and Network Quality

Description: Handles test instances and scheduling for Huawei's Network Quality Analyzer, storing performance results equivalent to IP SLA.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NQA-MIB?

NQA-MIB is a Huawei MIB implementing Network Quality Analysis, Huawei's equivalent of Cisco's IP SLA, used to configure and run active network performance test probes on Huawei routers and switches. It exposes administrative parameters for various test types (including LSP/MPLS ping tests, traceroute-style "mtracert" multicast trace tests, and PPPoE session establishment tests), along with statistics tables recording test results such as completion counts, current phase, and error messages. This MIB is a monitoring-focused module by design: it lets operators actively probe network and service quality and then poll the resulting statistics to detect failures, timeouts, or slow negotiation phases, functioning much like a synthetic-transaction health check. It parallels the concepts of the IETF DISMAN-PING/TRACEROUTE MIBs and Cisco's proprietary IP SLA MIBs, though it is a distinct Huawei implementation with an overlapping but broader test-type scope. It is typically deployed in Huawei carrier and enterprise network infrastructure where active testing of MPLS paths, multicast trees, or PPPoE broadband service quality is required for SLA verification. Engineers can download the NQA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NQA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei router/switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would configure nqaAdminParaLspAddressType and nqaAdminParaLspNextHopAddress to set up an LSP ping test toward a specific MPLS next hop, then poll the corresponding statistics to check reachability. For multicast path diagnostics, nqaMtracertStatsIndex and nqaMtracertStatsAddressType identify a trace test instance and its target address family. For broadband service testing, nqaPppoeStatsIndex and nqaPppoeRedialIndex track individual PPPoE test attempts, while nqaPppoeStatsCompletions, nqaPppoeStatsCurrentPhase, and nqaPppoeStatsErrorMessage reveal whether a PPPoE session test completed successfully or stalled at a specific phase, with nqaPppoeDiscoveryTimeout and nqaPppoeLcpTimeout defining the thresholds used to flag a stall.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LSP/MPLS ping test results
  • multicast traceroute (mtracert) statistics
  • PPPoE session test completions
  • PPPoE session current phase/error message
  • PPPoE discovery/LCP timeout thresholds
