What Is NMS-LOG-SERVER-MIB?
NMS-LOG-SERVER-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from NMS Communications, a maker of telephony/media-gateway platforms, used to configure how a device forwards its internal event log to remote syslog collectors. It exposes configuration-oriented objects covering syslog server address/port targets, per-severity filtering thresholds, and enable/disable controls for log forwarding, rather than raw performance counters. Its monitoring value is indirect but important for software status: by controlling which severity levels are forwarded, it determines whether fault and error events generated by the device's internal software subsystems reach a central log for troubleshooting. It has no explicit hardware-sensor objects of its own, but the events it forwards typically originate from fault/alarm conditions defined in other device MIBs, making it a supporting piece of the broader fault-management chain. It is typically deployed on NMS Communications media-gateway or voice-platform equipment integrated into a centralized logging or SIEM infrastructure. Engineers can download the NMS-LOG-SERVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-LOG-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NMS Communications media gateway / telephony platform
Monitoring Examples
An administrator configures a syslog-server destination entry (address, UDP port, and minimum severity level) so the device forwards its internal log messages to a central collector, then polls the entry's row/enable status to confirm the destination is active; if expected error-level events are missing from the central log, checking the configured severity filter would reveal it was set too restrictively.
What Can Be Monitored
- remote syslog server address/port configuration
- log severity filter thresholds
- log forwarding enable/disable status
- configured log destination row status
