Description: Manages NMS Communications EPON OLT common configuration including PON port and system settings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-EPON-OLT-COMM?

NMS-EPON-OLT-COMM is a vendor-specific MIB (module NMS-EPON-OLT-COMM, under the nmsEPONGroup enterprise branch) that manages common, chassis-wide configuration for an EPON Optical Line Terminal, covering link-layer encryption, IGMP-based multicast control, and PON bandwidth-allocation policy. It exposes objects such as oltEncrypStatus/oltEncrypMode and oltRekeyingTime for OAM link encryption, oltMCSTStatus/oltMCSTMode/oltIGMPProxyStatus/oltIGMPQuerierAddress for IGMP snooping versus CTC dynamic-controllable multicast, per-version IGMP packet counters (oltV1Packets, oltV2Packets, oltV3Packets, oltJoinsPackets, oltLeavesPackets), and dynamic bandwidth allocation settings (oltDBAMode, oltDBAAlgorithm, oltIfDbaParamCycleTime/DiscFreq/DiscTime). It also covers storm-control thresholds (oltStormControlBroadcast/Multicast/Unicast) and per-ONU status via oltOnuStatusBitstring. This data helps operators confirm that multicast replication, OAM link security, and PON scheduling are behaving correctly across all ONUs served by an OLT port. It depends on the broader EPON OLT chassis MIB tree (NMS-SMI) and is deployed on EPON access-network head-end equipment alongside per-port and per-ONU MIB modules; administrators can download the NMS-EPON-OLT-COMM file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-EPON-OLT-COMM. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • EPON OLT chassis platforms implementing the NMS-SMI enterprise MIB tree

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls oltDLFDrop and the IGMP packet counters (oltV2Packets, oltJoinsPackets, oltLeavesPackets) to confirm multicast traffic is being properly snooped and forwarded, then checks oltOnuStatusBitstring; a bit indicating an ONU status change combined with a spike in leave-packet counts would point to a multicast subscriber flapping off the PON.

What Can Be Monitored

  • encryption enable/mode and rekeying timer
  • IGMP snooping vs. dynamic-controllable multicast mode
  • per-IGMP-version packet counters
  • DBA mode/algorithm and cycle-time parameters
  • storm-control thresholds
  • per-ONU status bitstring
