Category: Storage

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for Nimble Storage array faults, disk failures, and threshold alerts.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NIMBLE-TRAP-MIB?

NIMBLE-TRAP-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Nimble Storage defining the SMI/notification structure for alerts generated by Nimble storage arrays. It exposes objects carrying trap message text, severity, and originator identity (array name, serial number, and storage group name/ID), alongside the actual trap/notification definitions and a target-configuration structure for where alerts are sent. Its monitoring value is squarely hardware/software fault status: it is the mechanism by which the array reports disk failures, capacity thresholds, hardware faults, and other operational alerts to a monitoring system in real time via SNMP traps. As a trap-focused module it depends on the broader Nimble Storage array management MIB/framework for the underlying inventory and health data that triggers these alerts. It is deployed on Nimble Storage (HPE Nimble) hybrid flash storage arrays in enterprise data centers for proactive fault notification. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the NIMBLE-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NIMBLE-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nimble Storage (HPE Nimble) hybrid flash array

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring system would receive traps carrying trapMsg and trapSeverity, using trapOriginatorSerialNumber and trapOriginatorName to identify exactly which array chassis raised the alert. The trapOriginatorGroupName/trapOriginatorGroupID fields let an operator attribute the alert to a specific Nimble storage group in a multi-array deployment. A high trapSeverity value combined with a disk-related trapMsg text would indicate an imminent or occurred disk failure requiring replacement.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trap/alert message text
  • trap severity
  • originating array name and serial number
  • storage group identity
  • trap destination target configuration
