What Is NIMBLE-MIB?

NIMBLE-MIB is the SMI/enterprise MIB for Nimble Storage hybrid flash storage arrays, exposing storage-array-level configuration and operational data through a global arrays and globalStats object hierarchy. It centers on volume-level data, a table enumerating every configured storage volume with its ID, name, and capacity, along with array-wide statistics covering usage, reservation, IOPS, and cache efficiency. This is a performance- and capacity-monitoring MIB used to track the software/storage status of the array: administrators poll it to catch volumes approaching their capacity limits, snapshot space consumption eating into usable capacity, and cache-hit-ratio degradation signaling a performance bottleneck, indicators of storage subsystem health rather than raw physical hardware sensors. It has no stated dependency on other standard MIBs, functioning as a self-contained vendor SMI tree. It is deployed in enterprise and virtualization data centers using Nimble Storage (now part of HPE) arrays as primary or secondary block storage for VMs, databases, or backup targets, and administrators can download the NIMBLE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NIMBLE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls volNumberOfVolumes and then walks volTable/volEntry by volIndex to check each volID/volName's volSizeLow/volSizeHigh (total capacity) against volUsageLow/volUsageHigh (consumed capacity), flagging any volume nearing full utilization. The volReserveLow/volReserveHigh fields let the admin confirm how much of a volume's capacity is reserved (e.g., for snapshots), which combined with rising usage would predict when the volume will run out of usable space. globalStats would be checked separately for array-wide IOPS and cache-hit-ratio trends, revealing whether an observed application slowdown correlates with a drop in cache efficiency on the array.
