Description: Manages email alert notification settings including SMTP server and recipient addresses on NetScreen firewalls.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETSCREEN-SET-EMAIL-MIB?
NETSCREEN-SET-EMAIL-MIB is a small Juniper NetScreen ScreenOS MIB module that manages configuration for the device's built-in email alert notification feature, covering the SMTP server address, whether email alerts and log-triggered emails are enabled, and up to two recipient addresses. It is purely configuration-oriented, exposing settings rather than runtime counters or hardware telemetry directly. Its indirect value for monitoring software status is confirming that the firewall's own alerting mechanism — which relays other hardware/software fault notifications via email — is correctly configured and enabled, so that event conditions on the device actually get communicated out. It depends on the parent NETSCREEN-SMI enterprise tree for its OID placement and works alongside the device's logging subsystem. It is deployed on Juniper NetScreen firewall appliances where administrators want automated email notification of security or system events, often starting with a NETSCREEN-SET-EMAIL-MIB download to load the module into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETSCREEN-SET-EMAIL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper NetScreen ScreenOS firewall/security appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check nsSetEmailEnable and nsSetEmailLog to confirm email alerting and log-based email triggers are turned on, then verify nsSetEmailSMTP points to a reachable mail relay and nsSetEmailAddr1/nsSetEmailAddr2 list the correct recipients. If nsSetEmailEnable is set but no alert emails are arriving, checking nsSetEmailSMTP for a stale or unreachable server address would be the first troubleshooting step. This MIB's objects are entirely configuration settings, so it does not reveal runtime alert content itself.
What Can Be Monitored
- email alert enable state
- log-triggered email enable state
- configured SMTP server address
- configured alert recipient addresses
